Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated, and regulated (licensed/registered), and optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.

B.Sc. Optometry

Optometry program at Lotus Bausch and Lomb Institute of Optometry is registered with Alagappa University. With an academic period of three years and one year internship, we provide our students a cohort curriculum which includes the early clinical experience from second year of their under graduation program. Our Institute is well known for its extensive internship which will be provided in and around the seven branches of our institution across Tamilnadu and Kerala. Students will actively participate in a variety of public health eye camps like industrial vision screening, cataract and diabetic retinopathy screening programs, school screening camps etc in and around the suburbs and rural areas of Coimbatore and Kerala. Internship covers all the regular and specialty clinical postings in Optometry. Other salient features of the program include small group learning experiences, traditional semester breaks, research exposure and a learning environment in which what you learn in the classroom is practiced in the labs and applied to actual patients under the guidance and supervision of faculty.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 10+2 with MPCB group in Higher secondary
  • 75% marks in higher secondary

The Traditional Optometry practice can be enhanced with advanced studies in expanding areas of the patient care through fellowship programs. Through these programs, students gain additional expertise in speciality domains of optometry. Curriculum of these programs are crafted in a way that innovative educational approaches are utilized to provide the student with the much needed skills for contemporary practice.

Being one of the nation’s fastest-growing occupations, optometry as a profession is taking on more of a holistic approach to ocular health to meet the demands of the growing global population and its health care needs.

Clinical optometry includes all components of visual care, ocular health, and care associated with related systemic disorders. In conjunction with the emerging trends, every aspect of education at Lotus eye Hospital and Institute from Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and clinical training, to the varied modules that focus on evidence based clinical practice prepares students for this shift. Students are ultimately aptly prepared when they graduate and have extensive opportunities to expand their career.

Eligibility Criteria

Students who have completed their four years UG Optometry program in a recognized University.

Student Selection Criteria

Student shall be selected based on practical examination and personal interview for which you will be called upon submission of your 10th, +2, UG Optometry mark sheets for verification and Resume through email to [email protected]

Fellowship period

One Year

Stipend

Rs. 8000/- for last six months of Fellowship period.

Food and Accommodation are available in campus.
